The Community of Practice for Supporting Families of Individuals with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities

Description:

This Community of Practice is targeted to learning about the best ways to support families that include a person with intellectual and or other developmental disabilities. It was funded in 2012 by a five-year grant from the US Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and managed by the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services. They have selected five states who have an interest in developing better ways to support families.

As a beginning, the Community of Practice adopted the Life Course framework for supporting families to serve as a template for the states as they developed new systems. The goal of the five states is to develop innovations that can be replicated around the country. Click on the "Web Links" tab above to visit the Community of Practice's website or to download a copy of its first evaluation report, both have many resources on family support.

The five states participating in this Community of Practice are Connecticut, District of Columbia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Washington, with Missouri acting as a demonstration state.
