Asbury College Connection


Description:

The Jessamine County Public Schools system has helped post-secondary age students with developmental disabilities transition to college. They attend Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. They attend classes, participate in campus activities, and live in dormitories.

The Connections Program is aimed at 18-21 year old students. It is a partnership of the community, school district and college. Jessamine County students who are in a certificate program are elgible to attend. The Jessamine-Asbury Mixer is a volunteer student organization that invites Connections students to extracurricular activities both on and off campus.

Some of the classes which students attend include children's literature, technology in education, introduction to theater, art and movie apprectiaion, children's ministry, horsebacdk riding and radio production.

Students involved in this program have shown a dramatic increase in their circle of friends, as well as marked improvement in social skills and dialogue.
