"ArtsWORK Indiana (AWI) is a group of people interested in developing more opportunities for artists with disabilities to be professional artists. Participants include all kinds of artists and people supporting opportunities for artists like rehabilitation professionals, college counselors, and arts administrators.
It was started in 2004 as a collaboration between Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, VSA Indiana, and the Indiana Arts Commission, and in 2005 received funding and hired a director. The organization continues to be involved in many activities including:
- Holding workshops around Indiana for people with disabilities who want to become professional artists.
- Promoting the work of artists with disabilities from Indiana.
- Maintaining an active board of directors
As part of its work in promoting the work of artists who have disabilities, Artswork Indiana includes a section on its website listing artists in Indiana. Each artist is given a page on which they can provide a picture of themselves, a brief statement and information about the medium in which they work and conctact information.
