Parent Empowerment Network

This is a list-serve group designed to empower parents who have disabilities.

What do I need to participate in the Parent Empowerment Network?

All you need is access to an E-mail system that allows you to send and receive E-mail to and from the Internet. The Parent Empowerment Network list is a "closed" E-mail listserver, which means that before you can participate, you must first "subscribe" to the list. There is no charge to subscribe. Click on the "Web Links" tab above to go to the page where you can sign up to be part of the network.

You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email. This is also a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator.

That's all there is to it! As soon as you are approved, you will automatically begin receiving mail messages from other members of the Parent Empowerment Network list. You can "jump in" at any time, but it might be a good idea to introduce yourself in your first letter, so that the other list members know who you are.

A message from the leaders: "Our list grows on a daily basis, and as it grows, so does our opportunity to share and learn from each other. Our goal is to create a warm, open environment, where disabled parents can learn that they are not the only disabled parents in the world, and can know that there are more of us out there than the designers of inaccessible cribs and other paraphernalia designed with the nondisabled parent in mind could have ever imagined."
